The 2016 Running for Others beneficiary is Wamego resident Christi Michaud-Waterbury.  She has one eighteen year old son, Wesley Michaud.  In January of 2014, at the age of 34, Christi was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer.   After receiving her diagnosis, she started chemotherapy treatments at KU Med’s Cancer Center.   Following those treatments, it was determined it was time for surgery to remove the tumors.  During this invasive surgery, many organs were partially or entirely removed as more cancer was present than expected.   Further chemotherapy followed this as well as another surgery to remove the spleen as a tumor had appeared there.  After this physically and emotionally exhaustive course of treatment which had totaled to 18 rounds of chemotherapy, her doctors suggested that a new experimental drug may be an option.  The funds raised from this fundraiser will be used to help Christi pay for the many associated expenses with this treatment.
